Why would I want to ride a bicycle for 24 hours through all kinds of weather then return home from this Sierra Mountain event to agonize for a few weeks while my body heals?
Because young people are dying...
Today's youth face enormous problems: drugs, family neglect and abuse, suicidal tendencies, incest, sexual promiscuity, and gang violence, just to name a few. You probably know individuals who are struggling with these serious problems now.
Christian Encounter Ranch in Grass Valley, CA, has been restoring the lives of troubled young men and women between the ages of 16 and 25 since 1970.
Residents enter the program voluntarily. They experience a safe, loving environment on a semi-secluded 82-acre ranch where they are provided counseling, education, and spiritual direction. They also develop good attitudes, work habits and personal life-skills. They stay an average of one year. Funding for this work is from donations rather than tax-generated dollars.
By participating in the 24-Hour Agony Bike Ride you'll be raising money to benefit the young people at Christian Encounter Ranch. The annual bike-a-thon is normally held in August in the Sierra Valley less than 50 miles north of Lake Tahoe, California.
1. Join the Agony as a rider. You must be a committed Christian, 18 years or older, and you must challenge people to pledge support for the miles you ride.
2. Participate in the Agony as a sagger (assisting the riders during the event). You must be a committed Christian 18 years or older and be willing to help care for riders for at least one 8-hour shift.
3. Support the Agony as a sponsor by pledging (so much per mile) for the rider of your choice, or for a rider assigned to you by CEM.
